TWO “MEASURED MILES" have been marked for the convenience of motorists in the Virginia Highway Department’s Culpeper District. Donald B. Hope, district engineer, said one has been marked on the westbound lane of U.S. Route 50 in Fairfax County, 6;6 miles west of the Fairfax city limits. The other is on the northbound lane of U.S. Route 29 in Albemarle County, 2.9 miles north of Charlottesville.
They were established as part of an expanded program undertaken by the Highway Department to provide a convenient means by which motorists may check their speedometers and odometers for accuracy. The department said it was m&rking the miles in response to numerous requests.
The measured sections are designated by signs and by four-inch-wide white stripes painted across the w'idth of the road. □
