FESCUE TOUR - “Last year about this time I wrote an article in the Rappahannock News about one of our local farmers who made it through the winter feeding 130 bales of hay to 65 cows plus their calves. That's two bales per cow for the entire winter and they wasted part of that.
Well, when the newspaper came out, I found that there were just a whole lot of people in Rappahannock who don’t accept their County Agent’s word as gospel. So, I want to invite all you doubting Thomas’ to come out and see for yourself.
Mr. H.L. Manwaring, Woodville, was kind enough to invite all interested farmers for a brief tour of his North Red Oak Farm next Tuesday, March 20, 1:30 p.m. Take Route 221 North from Woodville; turn in first farm entrance on right after crossing the Thorntop River Bridge.
You will have an opportunity to look over a cowcalf herd and a group of steers that have been wintered on stockpiled fescue. Mr. Manwaring will explain his fescue managemeftt program and answer questions.
