LANDOWNERS should place orders for wildlife planting materials distributed by the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries with their game warden during March, reminds Game Division Chief R.H. Cross.
Bags of annual game bird mixture, each sufficient to plant 1/8 acre, are abatable free to qualified landowners and to clubs and civic groups who can substantiate that they have land available for planting. The materials are attractively packaged in clear plastic bags with a multi-color illustration of game birds on the front.
The annual game bird mix consists of soy beans, German millet, brown-top' millet, proso millet, Japanese millet and milo, harvested from Game Commission Wildlife Management Areas. It has proven to be attractive to quail, turkeys, doves, rabbits and deer. It is best planted in strips along field edges adjacent to cover.
Woodland fire trails, abandoned logging roads and power line or pipe line right-of-way are excellent. Orders for the game bird mixture should be placed with the game warden assigned to the county in which the property is located. Materials will be delivered
