FOOD prices are of a major concern to all of us today. It is essential that we be wise consumers in order to hold down our food budgets. How can we achieve this goal? Here are some budget happy food ideas that may help:

1. Planning your food purchases and making a list is a must. Depending on food displays as buying reminders tends to smashing the budget with impulse purchases and forgetting some of the items you really need and that leads to extra shopping trips.

2. Study food ads and try to plan meals around the sale items. You may be able to serve complete “sale” meals each week.

3. Never go to the gorcery store hungry. “Your eyes will be bigger than your stomach,” and you’ll end up purchasing unnecessary items just because they look so good.

4. Consider the use of the food when you are purchasing it. For example, if we were serving tomato soup alone or as a main dish, we would want a high quality or more expensive brand, however, if we were using the tomato soup in a casserole, a less expensive brand would do the same job at a lower price.

5. Unsliced bologna and liverwurst are less per pound than the same meats sold sliced and packaged.

6. Less expensive luncheon meats, such as chop
