GEN. NOCE then talked about the Battle of the Bulge. “There was something out there, something big was going to happen,” he said.

“A battalion was sent out to find out. It reported back that there were a lot of troops massing. It had got its nose bloodied.

“This is our Bulge,” he said. “We’ve got to find out who is the enemy.”

Col. Pete Luke said he is a member of one of the education task forces, and suggested that nothing be done until the various task forces complete their work and make reports.

The task force studies will help the Board of Education set minimum education standards for the counties, it was explained.

BOARD Chairman Newbill Miller said he also is a member of one of the task forces studying quality education.

“Maybe these are set up to make the pill go down easier,” Miller said.

He said he didn’t agree on waiting for the task force reports, but “should start discussions now.

“There are some who don’t agree on some things being suggested, but they are not against education.”

He said he is pro-vocational education, and against kindergartens.

Kindergartens might be all right for some areas, it was said, but not perhaps for Rappahannock. With the long bus trips, the kids would be away from ■ home for about ten hours a day.
