BEN FORBERG explained this situation, and Virginia assessment practices in general,—as a sort of official send-off for Rappahannock’s latest reappraisal.
He explained that Virginia law requires a general reassessment no later than six years after the previous reassessment. By this formula, 1974 is the year for Rappahannock.
In the course of the reassessment, current sales prices are checked, and the established “true values” have a bearing on the amount of state school .funds allocated the county, and other revenue-sharing programs—in addition to serving as the basis for raising funds to carry on local county government.
