James William Coates of Sperryville died Sunday, March 10 1974 of a heart attack while playing golf in Front Royal. He was pronnounced dead at Warren Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Coates, 45, was manager of the Rappahannock County ASCS Office at Washington. He was a member of F. T. Valley Baptist Church, Rappahannock Lions Club and Sperryville Rescue Squad.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Snead Coates; two daughters, Margaret Cassandra Ccates and Susan Amanda Coates, all of the home address; his mother, Mrs. Sarah H. Coates of Madison; two brothers, Ross Coates of Madison and John Coates of Brightwood; and three sisters, Mrs. Kirby Hitt of Brightwood, Mrs. Virginia Ruffner of Catlett and Mrs. Richard Boyd of Bethney, Okla.
A graveside funeral was held Wednesday at the Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery
