DUO-PIANISTS Stecher and Horowitz will open the Culpeper Community Concert Association’s 1974-75 season at 8 p.m., Monday, October 21, in the auditorium of Culpeper County High School.
Traveling with two perfectly matched Steinways, Stecher and Horowitz for the past two decades have performed new music as well as traditional masterpieces for two pianos before audiences throughout the world.
Each season the pianists perform in 70 cities of the United States and Canada, and make extensive tours of Europe. They have recorded duo-piano works by Brahms, Chopin and Milhaud for Everest Records.
Noted music educators as well as performers, Melvin Stecher and Norman Horowitz founded the Stecher & Horowitz School of Music in Cedarhurst, Long Island in 1960.
They have composed the series “Learning to Play” and “Playing to Learn,” used by teachers everywhere. Their most recent publications are “Rock With Jazz,” written for piano students.
IN ADDITION to their heavily booked-concert schedule, Stecher and Horowitz conduct Piano Workshops to demonstrate new methods and materials for teaching piano across the U.S. In all of these endeavors, the virtuosity and versatility of Stecher and Horowitz have earned them a reputation as one of the most brilliant music duos in the world.
