County totals—Gilliam 723, Robinson 532; 678 yes, 457 no.
THE TURNOUT in Rappahannock was only slightly heavier than in 1970, when Robinson was opposed by Democrat Murat Williams. The county total in 1970 tallied 723 votes, for Robinson and 418 for Williams. Also a factor in that voting was the race for the U.S. Senate seat held by Independent Harry Byrd.
