RAPPAHANNOCK’S School Board decided Tuesday night to appoint an “ad hoc committee” to see “just what are we going to do out at the high school.” The committee will study problems of overcrowding and recommend solutions, which could range from new construction, renovation, or a food services study, to see if high school students could be fed from the elementary school kitchen to free the cafeteria space for classrooms.
Superintendent 0. A. Norton, School Board chairman E. N. Montague will participate on the committee which will also include a representative from the board of Supervisors, several “lay members” and, at Norton’s suggestion, “both men and Women.” The committee will come up with suggestions for the School Board which will decide which suggestions to present to the Board of Supervisors.
Except for Norton and Montague , individual members of the committee haven’t been named yet. Tuesday night, the school board only went so far as to establish the committee, decide on the number of members and “think about” the individuals they’ll name to the remaining positions on the committe. The school board has maintained for several years that additional space is badly needed at the high school.
SO FAR, the Board of Supervisors has rejected requests for either expansion or modular classrooms.
