CANDIDATES do some strange things in the heat of a political campaign, and we want Rappahannock politicians to take due note of the strange behavior of some of their neighbors over in Fauquier County.
In Fauquier, a political pressure group which seems mainly interested in helping unionize teachers and getting them higher pay, quizzed all Supervisor candidates and then published their answers. Would you believe that in cautious, conservative Fauquier County all but one candidate (all but one Board seat is being contested this year) declared themselves in favor of “collective bargaining” for teachers, and all but two are in favor of automatic cost-ofliving pay raises for teachers!
To be sure, most of them added a “no strike” rider to their endorsement of “collective bargaining,” but as Gov. Mills Godwin has noted, to the dismay of professional educational organizers, what’s the intent of “collective bargaining” if not to raise the threat of a strike.
