SHENANDOAH National Park has announced its second art show for November 8 and 9. There will be prizes offered, but the primary purpose of the contest is “to encourage production of original works of art inspired by the Park environment.”
Artists 16 or older may compete in any of the six general categories: paintings in acrylics or oils; water colors; drawings and graphics; sculpture; photographic prints (mounted) or color transparencies (slides); and mountain crafts. All works must be original, produced within the past three years, and must interpret some phase of the Park environment. No painting by numbers or works produced by kits will be accepted.
There will be an entry fee of $2 for the first entry by an artist and a lesser fee of $1 for each additional entry.
THE SHOW will be held at the Mimslyn Motor Inn in Luray. For persons traveling a distance to this show, meals can be obtained at the Mimslyn. No commission will be charged for artists selling their works during the show. However, it is requested that sponsors have first refusal of purchase 6f all works offered for sale as one purpose of the competition is to acquire works of art for permanent display in the Park. Selected works may be exhibited in Park facilities for two weeks after the Luray show ends.
