A bill to relieve the malpractice insurance problem for physicians and hospitals has a good chance of passage and I support this legislation.
The budget bill as passed by the House of Delegates provides for an overall increase of approximately 22 percent over the present budget period. Increases in state appropriations for public school education are approximately 16 percent (no appreciable increase in statewide enrollment), an approximate 24 percent increase for colleges and universities (13 percent increase in enrollment estimated), and an approximate 16 percent increase for mental health and hospitals and substantially increased appropriations for local mental health boards. These increases should allow the state to
