Joseph C. Carter, 89, of Silver Spring, Md., a retired chief of the photographic section of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, died December 6, 1976 at Washington Hospital Center.
Mr. Carter was a native Washingtonian, a member of the family for which the Tenleytown section of Northwest Washington was named. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
For many years, he was an expert potter and a member of the Kiln Club of D.C. One summer he held a pottery workshop in the Sperryville area.
For over 20 years, he and his wife enjoyed a summer vacation home in Jenkins Hollow, Rappahannock.
He is survived by his wife, Isabel D. Carter of Silver Spring, Md.
Funeral services were held December 11. Interment was in the Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
