BAUMGARDNER suggested that the county explore the possibility of locating a landfill underneath powerlines, should all efforts to block Vepco’s plans fail. Barksdale agreed and Luke volunteered to look into the matter.

Rapp Owings reported to the Commission on the status of the Master Plan for the Youth Recreation Center. Capt. Bill Freeze and Pete Luke are in the process of applying for a HUD grant to finance plans for a junior Olympic sized swimming pool, a shuffle board court, a hard surfaced multi-purpose court, double tennis courts and additional picnic tables. The grant, said Owings, is the only way of completing the facility in the foreseeable future.
