He noted that the county had made provisions for the few 18year-olds in school to be excused from classes to vote and that they had even been taken to register. Children learn more in school about the election process and the proposed election holiday would only be another day to put in the calendar to make up, maintained Norton.
Mrs. Massie contended that the bill would benefit only urban areas that use public schools as polling places.
““I’ve been besieged with requests for a holiday on the first day of hunting season,” Norton commented. “We have enough hunters in the woods without sending elementary students out.”
