THE problem with lack of space in the court house complex came up again at last week’s Rappahannock Supervisors’ meeting, and this time it appears that an immediate solution to overcrowding at the clerk’s office will be required
“I received a letter and a phone call from the judge (Raynor Snead),” said Supervisor Dick Latham, serving as chairman in Pete Luke’s absence. “He’s very insistent that some additional space be provided for the clerk’s office.”
Clerk Ned Jones reminded the Board that a plan dealing with solutions to the space problems had been received from the University of Illinois, a study arranged at no obligation to the county through the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District offices.
“The problem with the plan,” maintained Commonwealth’s Attorney George Davis, “is that it doesn’t fit immediate needs.” At present, there is no room for deed records, court records in both criminal and civil cases, and working space in the clerk’s office, he maintained. “It appears at least another fireproof vault, the same size as die present vault, is needed,” said Davis, in addition to added space for conference rooms.
