A CONFLICT between the sheriff’s department and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office over law enforcement practices continued at last Thursday’s Rappahannock Supervisors’ meeting. Commonwealth’s Attorney George Davis advised the Board not to pay mileage charges again this month on the general grounds that Sheriff William Buntin’s deputies were engaged in policing procedures that the Virginia Compensation Board wouldn’t cover in the standard reimbursement of mileage fees.
Davis asked the Board to delay approval of the mileage reports until he had time to check with the Compensation Board. (Following last month’s controversy over whetherBuntin’s policy-'-described as “patrolling” by Davis and “policing” by Supervisor Chairman Pete Luke— was reimbursable by the state, Luke and Davis scheduled the trip to Richmond for a conference.)
