Task Force
Update
The Joint State Agency Culpeper Task Force met Monday, August 3, 1981 to share any new findings in the involved agencies' continuing monitoring programs.
The Task Force, comprised of representatives from the State Water Control Board, State Department of Health,' Division of Consolidated Laboratories and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, discussed the latest developments in their investigations.
According to State Veterinarian Dr. George B. Estes, “There is no new evidence that the death of livestock in the area reflect anything other than disease conditions found throughout the state.”
"Although there has been some runoff from the plastic covering at Culpeper Wood Preservers, Inc.,” said Ray Bowles, director of the Bureau of Surveillance and Field Studies-State Water Control Board, “the runoff is moving only a short distance on the property, it is not entering any waterways.” Bowles continued to explain that the company is working with the agency to reach total containment of any runoff on the site and is in the initial stages of constructing „ lagoons for this specific purpose.
Jim Saunders, analytical chemist with the State Department of Health's Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management stated, “Jim's Liquid Wastes is under continuing investigation to determine what materials currently exist on the property and which ones have been disposed of."
