From the sketches, she picks out the shapes that she wants to dominate the painting and lays them out in the pattern she wants. She’s still working on tracing paper at this point, and there are many steps before she tackles the final canvas.
Albright works in acrylics and a big part of her work is mixing paint, cataloguing formulas and coordinating the final color combinations so that they will be pleasing to the eye.
The Albright style uses transparent shapes, so that in many cases the shapes underneath can be seen through the top shapes. To achieve this effect, it is necessary that the shape that shines through be a different color from both the overlaid object and its own parts that are not obstructed. So there is a great deal of continuous color.
