“We've had people come here from the city and buy a truckload of furniture,” she said. Swindler added that the location of her shop. Parkway, and the Emporium all in Sperryville helps all three.

Steve DeMent of Fairlawn Antiques said that, after a slow start, his business has picked up enormously in July and August. “We’re doing normal - and that means heavy - business,” DeMent said.

"We’re serving six hundred people a day, now.” DeMent said that he thinks people have adjusted to high gas prices and are not afraid of a gas shortage.

DeMent said that his business may suffer less from the easier traffic flow to Front Royal because a lot of his customers make a trip specifically to visit his large antique business.

DeMent added that his customers are a little different from his usual ones and fewer spend money. “But the ones that do, seem to spend more,” he said.
