The lowest temperature recorded this year at the official weather station operated by Miss Ruby Jenkins at Washington was a 5 below which registered during the night Monday or early Tuesday morning. Precipitation during the month of December totaled 3.70, and the total for the year of 1967 is 39.82. The yearly average stands at 36.14. Forester William C. Vemam, Virginia Division of Forestry, warns that there has been a heavy crop of oak acorns this year and that there have been reported losses of livestock in the state where animals have been allowed to graze woodland areas. Losses have been attributed to the excess tannic acid in the acorns.

Miss Ann Spieker received an award of appreciation from members of the girls basketball . team at RCHS. The presentation of the award was made by Sharon Foster and Cheryl Poling at an assembly. Winners of the annual Christmas home lighting contest sponsored by the Amiisville Ruritan Club were announced yesterday. In first place was the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Paul while that of Mr. and Mrs. John Slivey rated second and receiving third place
