was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Poe. Farrell Nichols has been named to the presdiency of the Amissville Ruritan Club for the year which is beginning. Edward E. Clark Jr., a senior history major at Bridgewater College, was named to the dean’s list for the fall term. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Clark Sr. of Flint Hill.

Many folks take down Christmas trimmings on Jan. 6, Epiphany or Old Christmas, the 12th night after Christmas, following an old English tradition. By burning them, it was believed back luck could be avoided for the coming year. Actually, the custom began at a much earlier time when farmers made bonfires to scare off witches threatening the home and crops. The Heads Up 4-H Club, in the spirit of the holiday season, provided a merry Christmas for four needy families in the area last week. Members of the club gave turkeys and holiday food, wrapped Christmas presents and clothing to three Rappahannock families and a fourth household in the Jeffersonton area. For anyone with a bit of woods on their property, or even a large backyard, the old Christmas tree can provide welcome safety and cover for a variety of wildlife. Laid on its side, small birds, chipmunks, squirrels or rabbits may find shelter from the harsh winter weather. 1
