EPITAPHS
If all could see their epitaphs, many would be surprised by the high esteem in which they were held by others. These concise summations of a person's life could serve as sources of inspiration if they were to be made known before their time of need. Oliver Goldsmith said as much with the words: “Some persons make their own epitaphs, and bespeak the reader's goodwill. It were, indeed, to be wished, that every man would early leam in this manner to make his own, and that he would draw it up in terms as flattering as possible, and that he would make it the employment of his life to deserve it."
