The cliche” the longest journey begins with a single step” although applicable to a recent hike I was on, I think should be given the additional line “if you’re determined enough to undertake it.” Now whether determination or just plain stubbornness was the motivating factor I cannot discern. On my part was easy but for my cousin Dorothy McWaters who is more than three score and ten years of age, it was sheer wonder.
This hike quite unplanned, or should I say, was planned on the spur-of-the -moment. During the previous week both Dorothy and myself and our cousin Sally had planned to visit and document some more cemeteries in the Gid Brown Hollow. This being one of our fall past times which under normal circumstances would indeed have been carried out. Our plans changed early on Saturday morning. I picked up Dorothy and her grandson Joshua and his friend Wade Harrell and went to Sally’s for breakfast.
