The second error is the author’s claim that James Madison “authored” the “Virginia Bill of Rights in 1776.” In fact, George Mason was responsible for drafting most the 1776 Declaration of Rights, the correct title of the document.
At the time, Madison was new to the political scene in Virginia and not yet influential in the company of such legislative titans as Edmund Pendleton and Patrick Henry.
