The second week in December finished strong for 56me teams, but it was tough on others. The girls’ Varsity volleyball squad, with their big victory over archrival Madison County High School, looked like a different team from the week before. ' The wrestler’s stayed on the road, traveling to North Stafford and Buffalo Gap High Schools oVer the weekend and continued t6 do well. The worst fate was suffered by the boys’ basketball program. They struggled against several opponents, just to come up empty handed after a week’s worth of effort and lost all seven games. ~ Boys* Basketball
'* The Varsity boys traveled to Page County High School for a match-up with one of our traditional, non-district opponents from the Valley. The game also pitted two, first-year head cbaches, and both Page County graduates, against one another.
Even more interesting was the fact that the coaches are brothers. RCHS’ Todd Purham would coach against his younger brother Mike in the first of two meetings this year. Game one Jtvould go to the home team and the younger sibling, as the Rapp side couldn’t win it for their fcoach on the road. * A slow start by the RCHS Panthers garnered only six first quarter points against the Page Panthers during the game Tuesday, Dec. 11. Down 15 to 6 Jit the end of that break, the rest of the game was pretty even. The Rapp side scrambled back Jnto the game just prior to the end. Down by one point with a minute and a half left and a thance to go ahead, junior Gregg Jackson missed a threepoint attempt and the Panthers jthought he’d been fouled. But there was no call and no change In the outcome, as the Rapp side felt the sting of a tough 57 to 53 loss at Page. Gregg Jackson had H3 points and senior Jeff jRitenour added 12 in the losing effort. • The JV game saw another ^low start by a Rapp team that would cost them the game. The jJV squad struggled back late in the game, but came up short 49 !to 45. I The Junior Panthers - ;Rapp’s 6th, 7th, and 8th grade team - had another three-game ‘week and it was a tough one. They fell to Marshall Middle School at home on Monday, Dec. JIO by the score of 55 to 32. * The JPs were back in action Jon Tuesday, the 11th, but suffered the same outcome. They were the opening game for a triple-header at Page County that day that saw all the Rapp learns come up short. They fell behind early, down 13 to 2 at the fend of the first quarter, but •ought back to make it close. I Dodson had 11 points in the losing effort as the Junior panthers fell 35 to 25.
