made virtually no mistakes. Again the JV team followed suit, losing 15 to 4 in game one and 15 to 7 in the final. There wasn’t much to be happy about as the teams left Berryville that night. Hopefully, the rematch here at RCHS on Wednesday, Jan. 16 will produce a much better contest.
That better contest wasn’t long in coming as the Varsity Lady Panthers put on quite a show for the home crowd on Friday, Dec. 14. The visiting Lady Mountaineers from Madison County High School came here that night looking for a victory. What they got instead was a Panther team fired up and ready to “bump, set, and spike” their way 15 to 13 and 15 to 8 one-sided win over the visitors.
Junior Rachel Sharp was a one-man wrecking crew as she dominated the net offensively with five kills and defensively with numerous blocks. Sharp intimidated the Madison side into numerous errors that hurt the Lady Mountaineers’ chances to get back in the game.
It wasn’t just Sharp however, the whole Lady Panther team was hot Friday — sophomore Lara Kreyling was solid and steady at her position, setting up Sharp numerous times for vicious attacks across the net.
Sophomore Ashleigh Burke was also there with key sets to facilitate Sharps’ wicked spiking. Sophomores’ Danielle Hiserman and Ryisha Cook also were key ingredients to the Lady Panthers’ success.
The night was marred only by the fact that the JV team had succumbed earlier in the evening two games to one. After winning their opened 15 to 13 against the JV Lady Mountaineers, the JV Lady Panthers lost a tough one 17 to 15. This seemed to take the air out of their sails and they fell 15 to 7 in the final game.
