This story created somewhat of a furor as concerned Rappahannock residents, the national news media, including The New York Times and CNN, began calling the Rappahannock Sheriffs Office and the County Administrator's Office, trying to obtain more information.
Now, the question in a lot of people's minds is whether in fact the socalled "chatter of terrorists actually said Rappahannock. Or was it Tappahannock, a fishing village located in Essex County, Virginia in the Northern Neck area, one and a half hours from Richmond?
Everyone agrees the word county" was never used, according to interviews with the reporters who wrote the story and law enforcement officials from the federal level to local level.
"I was told Rappahannock, Virginia was one of the places they were watching, just like LA and Las Vegas," said Greg Krikorian, one of the two reporters who covered the story. "I asked, What's there,' and they said government buildings. "
Krikorian, who is stationed in Los Angeles, said he was the reporter who spoke to a source that told him "Rappahannock, Virginia."
"Do you have government facilities there," he asked.
There is a Rappahannock, Virginia, actually a "crossroads" where Rappahannock Community College in the Northern Neck area is located, said County Administrator
