McCarthy said the committee is expected to make its report in March, and the new language proposed for the Comprehensive Plan anticipates a possible approval of such a plan. However, no decision on the PDR question will be final until the Board of Supervisors considers the advisory committee’s report.
In discussion of the PDR idea, Wakefield commissioner Charles Strittmatter stated that he would oppose use of any public funds for the purchase of development rights, and McCarthy said the county is not planning to use tax revenues for that purpose.
On the issue of village development, Castleton resident Jim Gannon told the commission that the villages could be revitalized by making them attractive places for small businesses and for senior citizens to live as residents.
