Residents of the Town of Washington joined together Sunday evening to put together a “pot luck” cornucopia of scrumptious food the likes of which could have been on a Gourmet magazine ewer
The “family” Christmas party for town citizens was a group effort with help from town officials, town employees and members of the community.
The party was one among a number of activities over the last two weeks to celebrate “Christmas in Little Washington."
Mayor Eugene Leggett welcomed some 60 fellow citizens and their families to the affair, along with a number of Town Council members and various other officials in the town.
All were treated to a lavish buffet dinner set up in the beautifully-decorated chamber of the stately Town Hall. Among the many popular dishes prepared for this feast was a large platter of Spanakopita, a Greek spinach pie made by Laura Dodd, secretary to the Town Council. Other special dishes included a tamale pie 1 Mary Schmidt), a large copper kettle of jumbo shrimp ( Inn at Little Washington), beef stew (Jeff Bensen), zucchini casserole (Clarissa Leggett), a honeybaked ham (Middleton Inn), lasagna (Jerry Goebel), and a beautifully arranged whole smoked salmon with cucumber dill and grapes (Katherine Leggett). Other delicious offerings included crab salad, mixed greens, several fruit salads, and a generous dessert table of pies, cakes, and cookies.
