Like father, like son
Racing must be in the Cockbum blood. Father Bay, pictured above in 1997, was a leading rider on Virginia’s circuit until a training injury paralyzed him from the chest down in April, 1998. He has continued to serve as joint-master of the Loudoun Hunt West, and trains steeplechasers from an ‘all-terrain’ wheelchair. One of Cockburn’s favored exercise riders is son Sam, 13, below.The junior Cockburn has shown his skill in the saddle the past two years in pony races and field masters’ chases, displaying nerves of steel and fierce determination attributable to his father.
