Roads,
zoning
changes
on agenda
for public
hearing

Two issues are on the agenda for the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors’ public hearing Wedhesday: county road projects and proposed changes to the county’s zoning code.
Funding cuts for a Virginia Department of Transportation program for local road projects are causing the board to reassess the county’s transportation priorities.
VDOT Administrator David Cubbage told the supervisors at their November meeting that the department’s Six-Year Improvement Program calls for a 36 percent reduction in funds statewide.
At the board’s December meeting, Cubbage presented a tentative list of proposed road projects in Rappahannock. The document lists several projects, including two bridge replacements, that address safety and traffic concerns on the county’s roads. The proposed bridge replacements are on Route 729 over Battle Creek and on Route 637 over the Jordan River.
The board will address citizen comments on the proposal at a public hearing Wednesday at the County Courthouse.
Zoning changes
Also on the agenda for Wednesday’s public hearing are proposed amendments to the zoning and subdivision chapters of the county code.
The main change is a redrafting of the Floodplain Overlay District that will bring the county into compliance with Federal Emergency Management Agency standards for the National Flood Insurance Program.
