After a day of traversing some of Warrenton’s historic sights, members of the Washington-Tokyo Women’s Club stopped in for afternoon tea at Madison’s Tea Room recently. The club is evenly divided between American and Japanese women, according to club member Anne Burhans.
“We just do fun things — we try to do different things," she said. The outing in Warrenton was chosen because the women elected to join a small group, “A Day in the Country," and visit rural locations in the area.The women chatted about their day and said they were most interested in the museums and small-town atmosphere Warrenton has to offer. Their next stop was the Liberty Heritage Society.
One woman on the tour, Keiko Fujiu, said she plans to bring her daughter back to Fauquier County to teach her more about local and American history.
Kazuko Sekiya said she enjoyed the historical sights and was most interested to learn that the Old Jail was in use until the mid 1960s.
“This town is so cute,” she said. “I enjoy the interesting shopping.” All three women seated at her table agreed that shopping would be their final activity after the last museum.
After visiting the museum and historical exhibits Keiko Hisadame said she was intrigued and plans to learn more about American history. She said many of the women plan to return to Warrenton.
