• Another surprise from Sunnyside: the market on Gay Street in Washington, a fixture for morning coffee, newspaper, sweet roll, meats and vegetables and on and on, suddenly is to close. The place fills with bargain hunters as prices are cut in half. Shelves empty quickly.
• Eddie Wayland overwhelms opposing candidates Monira Rifaat and Katherine Estes Bader and wins the Piedmont District’s supervisor seat.
