The first Sunday in December was the Christmas Parade in the Town of Washington and a first time “Deck the Doors* contest.
At the suggestion of Washington Hospitality and Visitors Association (WHVA) memher Mary Ann Kuhn, who wanted to encourage residents and businesses in the Town to create a winter wonderland for the season, the business group sponsored a campaign in which many residences and business establishments in the Town vied to decorate their front doors in a festive way to welcome in the holidays.
Based on originality and creativity, this year’s winner was the Gay Street Inn, owned by Kevin Adams and Jay Brown. A large Norway spruce that was balled and ready to plant was purchased by the WHVA from John and Judy Tole’s Evergreen Farm. The tree will be planted in a special place at the Gay Street Inn and grace the town’s beauty for many years to come.
