Sheriff Jim Branch said the case was still an open investigation and the Culpeper County Sheriffs Office will continue working with the state police to bring it to a conclusion. Although specific details of the investigation could not be released, deputies continue to interview potential witnesses.
As tor why Gray was first charged in the case. Branch said that was up to the Commonwealth’s Attorney to work with evidence provided.
“Through the investigative efforts, everything was channeled to the Commonwealth Attorney’s office and of course he decides to bring the charges that he brings. He has to work with what he has and sometimes things will change.” said Branch.
