Anthracnose?
Anthracnose is a term applied to a graup ot foliage diseases that affect moat hardwood tree species throughout the United States. It Is most prevalent and destructive in early sprtng when coot, moist weather conditions tavor diaaaae development. Foliar symptoms very rnnwiteiwbiy Ow sycamore, white oaks and maple, large irregular brown to purplish lesions (deed areas) develop usually along leaf veins On ash. black oaks, dogwood and walnut, discrete curricular or angular lesions occur on leaves. Blight and defoliation usually occur in early spring when leaves are small and succulent Crowns ot severely diseased trees appear thin and scrubby.
Removing tallen leaves and twigs to reduce overwintering fungi that cause anthracnose. and periodic pruning to allow optimum light and air penes aeon ot the crown, will inhibit diaaaae development. High nitrogen tertkzatlon will also suppress disease seventy, and property timed tungicide applications wd help control anthracnose. Ones infection occurs, however, chemical sprays ate ineffective m preventing further diaaaae development
