Marvin Pearson, 44, oi Castleton had plans recently to start a controlled brush fibre on his property.
He had intended to start the fire by using diesel fuel but mistakenly grabbed the wrong container. The container he used was filled with gasoline. Both containers were unmarked and identical.
Pearson says he “poured at least two gallons of gas on the brush and then lit it.”
He says he “never saw the flame on the igniter he was using.
“I just remember being knocked back with flames shooting off of my body,” he said recounting what hap pened that day, May 31.
Erin FH?arson began driving her husband to the hospital but met the ambulance en route. Ambulance personnel saw the extent of his injuries and quickly culled tor Med Evac.
F^arson was flown to the University of Virginia Hospital were he spent the next six days. *
Mis. Ptearson said hei husband received second and third degree bums to one third of his body.
Rappahannock Count> Sheriff Connie C. Smith said “units from Castleton and Sperryville fire companies responded to 88 Scrabble Road for an unattended burn.”
She also said that “an EMS unit met the Parson’s at Sperryville Pike and Gibson Mill Rd ”
For now Pearson has to make weekly visits to the doctor to monitor his progress and treatment. He has had no surgeries to date and doctors are unsure what surgeries, if any will be needed. He needs to use a wheelchair to get around since he cannot put much pressure on his legs, due to his usuries.
