The editorial asks, “Will light pollution from the sports fields spoil Rappahannock’s famous dark night skies?” The short answer is no. According to Mike Svetz, Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Director, an older generation of this lighting system has been installed at public tennis courts there. This is in an area where a light ordinance allowing only one-half foot-candles of spillover to ac^oining property is much stricter than Rappahannock's. Mr. Svetz reports that the lighting system exceeds the requirements and that there have been no complaints.
