There was also a short discussion about applying for grant money through the Department of Agriculture, but that the town had to demonstrate certain income requirements. On the face, the town’s income would appear to disqualify it from these grants.
However, there was discussion about circulating a questionnaire through a third party to ascertain just how much income people had. There has been talk that many people were property rich, but cash poor - mainly elderly and retirees.
The council also agreed to place an ad in the Rappahannock News soliciting a grant writer who could help households complete individual grant applications.
