Say what? Did I see an editorial
as a front page news story in the Rappahannock News (March 26)? In “County Explores Economic Development,” Stephen Dareing writes, “To promote only business that ‘maintains' farming is a little strange when by far the largest industry employing county residents is construction, according to the 2000 census.” A little strange?
Later he writes, “So how is a comprehensive plan written around 17 percent of the working population going to accommodate the other 83 percent in new job growth in the county?”
OK, we get the message. Stephen Dareing wants to see more “growth” in Rappahannock County. His opinions however, should be on the editorial page.
But to his points. If Mr. Dareing is relying on census data from 2000 his underlying facts are questionable at best. Furthermore, in the second quote he makes the extraordinary assumption that 100 percent of the resident population of Rappahannock County desires or
