Park spokesperson Karen Beck-Herzog, who also serves on the tourism committee, said the gateskeepers at Thornton Gap that day eventually had to give up on collecting admission fees and just let cars drive through, to alleviate a backup that stretched some distance down 211.
“It was the first time anyone who works there could remember us ever having to do that at Thornton Gap,” she said.
A suggestion by tourism committee member and Washington Town Councilman John Sullivan - that someone should check with VTX)T for traffic counts - came toward the start of the meeting chaired by county tourism consultant Laura Overstreet.
