Ground Observer Post Officially Made W ednesday Volunteers Asked To Prepare For Practice Alerts Fafmville has linked itself into the chain of air defen e posts be ing strung across Virginia under the banner of tiie Ground Ob server Corps. A call for civilian volunteers to attend an organizational meeting in the Courthouse Wednesday nicht resulted in official forma tion of a unit here. Some 20 volunteers, including one woman, answered the call Ail but one signified willingness to serve. Next task facing the unit is final selection of a spot to set. up as an observation post. Sev eral are now under consideration, according to Joseph Weinberg. Farmville Air Corps Reservist, who has been designated super visor of the unit. Want 50 Volunteers A goal of 50 volunteers has been set by local leaders of the unit. Those interested in serving in this chase of civil defense pre c;.rations may contact either Mr. Weinberg or W J Gills. Jr., in the Farmville Town office, who has been designated the post's chief observer. The unit has been informed that it. will be called on to con duct a practice alert as soon as •he observation post has been se lected and a direct phone cen nectrd with the Roanoke Filter Center—nerve center for this area to which local reports will be made. Mr. Weinberg said that it will require a minimum of 16 volun teers to man the observation post during an alert, and that 50 volunteers members are needed in order to insure that a sufficient number are available for a par ticular alert.
