Qdc Rappahannock
County High School?
4 recent, census taken by school Officials in the state of Virginia shows that the population of Rflftpahannoek county is decreasing, One reason for this decline is-probably attributable to the fact that Rappahannock is predominately agricultural and farm machinery is replacing hired .labor, It .now requires fewer pereoaato cultivate more acres.
Peftftif are moving to Front Roy_ali.fei workjet the American Viseoaa; Corporation, to ^EjGTpeiJef, and to other communities to find occupations"Blit
the decline is not caused merely by a scarcity of jobs. Unfortunately part of the decrease ean be traced to the .fact that Rappahannoet does not offer ail the advantages and opportunities in its schools that other schools do. For instance, neither Sperryvillc nor Washington High School presents any kind of business course. Numerous iocal girls and boys would like to learn typing and shorthand, but they have to go elsewhere to do so. This is just one example of the many shortages.
Few people even pretend to lenow all the answers, but nearly everyone that does much thinking about this problem probably admits that consolidation is at least partly a solution. By consolidation is meant having the high school for the whole county either at Washington or Sperryville. It would seem that this could be 4one without much additional expense.
