"With the newspaper as new as it is, there is difficulty in know* ing how other people feel about the question of .Rappahannock county being split up in telephone service. Perhaps the newspaper is the only business inconvenienced by this dual system of two sets of phones in. one small county.

The logical place for the location of a county’s newspaper is, of course,’ at the county seat. Yet, located there, it is impossible to call the chairman of the county Board of Supervisors without a toll call that goes from Washing► ton to Front Royal to Washington, D. C., to Culpeper and back into Rappahannock county at Amissville. The same problem arises if the paper wants to find out the hours of church services at Slate Mills, or the story is repeated for • information from Huntly. Rappahannock county i& far from the largest county in the state in, area; we are not so disunited in matters of mail service; the roads are good and yo>u< can travel from one end of the county to the other in fortydive minutes; and anyone can tell you that pride in the county runs just as thick in the veins of Amissville as it does in <SpenryvjU%-F^-T., JElin# HiU. -&SXS hollow, and at the Courthouse.

We pay well for telephone service. It’s sure every citizen of Rappahannock county is patient if something goes amiss with the mechanics of the system, but perhaps some othe/s, like the newspaper, have found this disunity in the county a detriment.

Looking ht the matter in a way we could understand, we said thusly: suppose a fellow walked into the office and asked us for a county newspaper. We took his nickel and handed him a paper with the front and back pages 'torn off. With his complaint, we could say: .“That’s a special telephone edition, you just get the middle section for the price of the whole.”
