What orchardist -would operate two packing houses 'on his farm when one could suffice? What dairyman would use two different dairy barns for his herd if he covld do the work in one of them? They would both avoid the duplication and the additional expense. What would consolidation of the two high schools in this county mean? It would seem to do** this': Fewer teachers could teach more pupils, thus releasing at least one or two teachers for additional and different classes. It would separate the smaller and younger children from the larger and older ones to the mutual benefit of both. It would cut down operatyonal expense of the overall system. By consolidating the two schools athletic and scholastic standards of both' would be greatly improved. In unity there is strength.
This matter was discussed and argued at a county meeting in the Washington High School auditorium last year. No decision was made. Petty prejudices seemed to stand in the way of any change. There was misplaced emphasis on “good old W.H.S. and S.II.S.” People did not seem to realize that one Rappahannock County High School could serve the county more efficiently than two
