Gordon Thompson Won
High Honors At State
F. F. A. Convention
Gordon Thompson, FFA student from Huntly, won high honors last week at the State FFA Convention held at VPI. He ,was second high individual in the Livestock Judging Contest, competing with 132 other boys from all over Virginia. Gorddn is now sporting a gold medal for this outstanding achievement in the judging of beef cattle, sheep and swine.
Other boys attending the Rally and participating in the judging were Newbill Miller and Edwin Scroggins, who made an excellent showing. Besides their judging work these boys attended Leadership Training schools and were taken on tours of various agricultural departments of the great- , er VPI. Recreational activities included baseball, swimming, and movies.
This story would not be complete without mentioning?'the fact that a huge, black bear made a very peaceful journey across the VPI campus just a few hours after the boys arrived. Very soon after this, the stories were flying fast and furious as to the size of this apparently harmless animal of the Blue Ridge; all the way from 250 to 1000 lbs. Despite his size a huge crowd was quickly dispersed as this big bruin made his appearance in Miles Stadium.
