jjear Mrs. Meneiee: Your son, Carroll has just ar'' rived at Sheppard Air Force Base to enter Airplane and Engine Mechanic training. I take this opportunity to send my personal greetings and assure you of my sincere interest in him and my concern for his welfare. He has a wonderful opportunity now, since the successful completion of this training will start him on his iway to a profitable and interesting career in the United States Air Force, or if he chooses, it will fit him for a similar vocation in civilian life.
Here at Sheppard Air Force * Base, which is one of the schools under the Air Training Command, no ffeort or expense has been spared to provide the best possible training facilities and a thorough]y competent instructional staff. While he is here we will provide him with a good place to live, good food, good clothing and excellent facilities for athletics and recreation. He may also attend : the church of his choice. We will be concerned with his moral and general welfare during his stay with us.
I feel that you can be of great help to us and to your son while he is here hy writing him frequently, encouraging him to apply himself to his studies and to make the most of hjs opportunity. I ask your co-operation in this matter. Keep ip touch with his home in« terest but if possible, avoid subjects that would worry him. His best work will be done if .he has no worries about conditions at home. The training peri.o.d is short and there is much to be learned. Your letters can do a great deal to help him achieve success.in the Air Force.
