On Korean Aid

The president will have my full and unqualified support in all measures that are necessary to drive the Northern Koreans out of South Korea, stated Sen. Harry P. Byrd. The clearcut action judgment, the only course to pursue under the conditions existing.

The invasion of South Korea was a ruthless and cruel act and could only be met by the forthright action that has been taken.

It is my hope that other member nations of the United Nations will immediately join our forces in military action so that a united front will be presented to those who would use aggression to increase the forces of communism.

The action of the United Nations, even through its legality is challenged by Russia, to my mind, offers the only hope I have been able to see that the United Nations may, and I earnestly hope become a strong agency to promote the peace of the world. This is the first instance under the U. N. of the use of armed force to preserve the peace. It must not and cannot fail, and I repeat, the more nations that take part in this police action the greater impress it will make upon the world and the more the deterrent will be to similar movements elsewhere.

If out this should come a strong and virile United Nations mil lions of people throughout the world will feel a security for the future, which is absent now.

This is a time for unity, as we must win. I have grave objections to sections of the pending legislation but, as it embraces aid to Korea, I shall cast my vote in favor of the legislation.
